New Executive Director- Mike Powell

The Board members of Beat the Streets Chicago are pleased to announce Michael Powell as
its new Executive Director. Mike brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the programs that Beat the Streets support throughout the City of Chicago. Having lived and coached near the city, he is familiar with the challenges and opportunities of Chicago wrestling (www.si.com/vault/2012/02/13/106159205/man-in-full). As many know, Mike is an “all in” guy and that is exactly what is needed to revitalize Beat the Streets Chicago.

Beat the Streets Chicago has existed as a program for underserved wrestlers for almost 30
years and has a large impact on many young lives through the years. In 2014, Midlands Youth Foundation officially turned over its board and non-profit organization to become Beat the Streets Chicago, Inc. 2017-18 has brought new board members, funding and life to the organization.
A new website (www.btschicago.org) is now available and its social media will now be a portal for kids,
coaches, parents and friends of Beat the Streets.

A strategic plan is also being implemented with the CPS Score! program at its core. Currently
finishing up its second year, this program is targeting elementary school-age wrestlers utilizing local CPS high schools and coaches. Additionally, Executive Director Powell is looking to establish 5 regional training sites to provide spring and summer wrestling opportunities. Plans for academic tutoring and year round training are being pursued. Underscoring the strategic plan is a strong desire for sustainability, quality and effective programming.

A June 2 exclusive fundraiser has been planned to raise awareness and support for Beat the
Streets Chicago.
