Powell Power: Jeremy and Mike Lead Popular Informal

With 58 wrestlers in attendance representing 22 different area wrestling programs, the October 6 Informal at Kenwood Academy marked a real milestone for our signature clinic / enrichment combo.

Youth and high school athletes came to train with our own Executive Director Coach Mike Powell and OPRF Assistant Coach Jeremy Cricket Powell.  Both Coaches Powell led the warm-up and technique session.  Coach Jeremy Powell led the enrichment session, with a motivational story about how to overcome obstacles and become a life champion.

Informals are wrestling workshops that combine equal parts technique drills, live wrestling and enrichment.  Designed to offer a fun experience of skill-building and sharing, informals emphasize positive coaching and “sport for impact.”  Participants are engaged and active the entire session, as opposed to tournaments which may offer only a small handful of matches.

Our informals have been growing in popularity, as wrestlers, families and coaches alike take to this engaging format.  We are excited to see the Chicago wrestling community build a culture of positive youth development through events like this.

Beat the Streets Chicago Informals are open to any Chicago-area wrestler with a USAW card.  For information about dates and locations, check our calendar.
