Coach Requirements

All coaches working directly with youth must have a USA Wrestling Membership at the "Leadership" level.

USAW requires a background check and completion of the Safe Sport course.  Coaches working at CPS will also need to be fingerprinted as part of a separate CPS background check.  Americorps coaches also have a separate background check process.

Time commitment varies by season.  IKWF teams practice 3 times per week; other seasons typically practice twice a week.  Coaches commit to attending all practices unless a sub is arranged with the approval of the Program Director.  Coaches are expected at 3-5 weekend events, depending on the season.

A coach can commit to just one, or multiple seasons in a year.  Small stipends are offered on a per-season basis.

BTSC holds coaches meetings and trainings throughout the year.  Coaches are strongly encouraged to attend.  At least one coach per team or training center is required to attend.

Wrestling experience is terrific.  But it is much more important that coaches are good with youth (3rd grade through high school), have strong leadership skills, are terrific communicators and adhere to our values of accountability, excellence, integrity, gratitude and grit.
